Built in 18 carat gold and surprisingly weighty, it's beautifully crafted with a fine textured finish to the wings and remarkable detailing to the head and abdomen. The Italian assay stamp indicates it was made by Caldana Girolamo di Cesare of Vicenza. As well as representing human mortality as a form of memento mori flies have been historically associated with secrets and secret keeping.
