Pacific Tropical Archipelago Rocky Islands

And it really is! Amazingly beautiful, among rocks and thickets of trees.

The Pacific Tropical Archipelago of the Rocky Islands (Palau) and Eil-Malka Island are unique not only with its natural beauties. There is an extraordinary lake here. The area of the water mirror is only 0, 057 km2, the size is 460 by 160 meters, and it is far from the deepest lakes of the world (50 m). From the ocean of the lake into the palau is separated by a narrow strip of sushi in 200 m. But “invisible” is connected with it through cracks and cracks in the breed and three limestone tunnels.

Lake Medus – an amazing creation of nature! There are about two million beautiful creatures here! Large, the size of a soccer ball and small, a little more cherry. 2 species of once former marine inhabitants live in the lake. Lunar and gold jellyfish. Having adapted to life in the lake, they have lost stinging stinging cages and tentacles (after all, there are no enemies and there is no one to defend from). There is a certain change in the color of the lake jellyfish of these species, distinguishing them from sea. By the way, scientists found in Palau 3 types of lunar jellyfish, previously unknown!

Researchers associate lakes with the movements of the earth’s crust 12 thousand years ago. The upper layer of the lake is saturated with oxygen. The lower lake layer is an oxygenic, starting from 15 m. With an oramin lake layer it does not mix. And the bottom of the lake is fraught with a great concentration of dangerous compounds for all living hydrogen sulfide.

The amazing sight of Lake Medus – the porcelain migrations of hundreds of thousands of animals behind sunlight. Medus physiology is not very difficult: seaweed in a cell and eight eyes. For algae, the sun is necessary. That’s why gold jellyfish during the day “run around in a circle” throughout the reservoir. Lunar jellyfish appear at the surface at night, as they feed on in oars and plankton, of which here in abundance.

Diving for everyone is allowed only at the surface of Lake Medus (for security purposes) and nowhere else. The lake is the largest of 10 smaller reservoirs of this type on the island.

Ecological disaster 1998-1997. led to the almost complete extinction of the jellyfish population due to the increased water temperature. Surprisingly, by 2000 the population recovered to almost the previous level!

Swim among millions of jellyfish, touch defenseless creations and watch the circulations of gold and lunar beauties after the sun. Fascinating beauty and unforgettable sensations!

At night, the jellyfish falls “to the depth”, where there is a lot of nitrogen, and with the first sunlight begin their new golden outlook.
